For My Aunt

This was written after the death of my favorite aunt, Loretta Jane Johnson Swain (Sept. 1954-Dec. 1983)

You were my aunt, yet you were so much more--
The seven years between us kept us close
And made us seem more like special friends.
I remember swimming, shopping and talking;
I remember sharing our clothes and our dreams.
We rarely spoke of our feelings for each other,
But we both knew the love was always there.
Now that you're gone, I know what I must do:
I will keep the spirit of our love alive
And pass it on to others for all my life.
